Biography

Spotswood Nicholas Gibson was born on July 1, 1830 in Charlottesville, Virginia to Nicholas Francis and Elizabeth (Bowen) Gibson. He married Charlotte Oiler on June 5, 1853 in Bath, Virginia. They were the parents of Sarah Elizabeth (1854–1921), Cornelia Ann (1855-1910), Marion Nicholas (born in 1857), Andrew Jackson (1858–1941), Emma Hammond (1861–1915), Amanda Jane (1866–1932), Charles Henry (1868-1956), William Gordon (1870-1941), and Robert Lee (1872-1945). He served as a private in Company C of the 27th Regiment, Virginia Infantry, as a Confederate. He was a wheelwright and wagon maker. He died on October 17, 1894 in Manassa, Colorado, at the age of 64, and was buried in Old Manassa Cemetery, in Manassa, Colorado.
