Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Joe Hammond, Sr. and their two sons, Ivan Joe Hammond, Jr., 12, and Dennis Laverne Hammond, 10, of Thayer, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Watts-Lindsay funeral home at Murray. Burial will be in the Murray cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond and their sons died in the fire that destroyed their home in Thayer about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Hammond, 79, a native of Iowa, had lived in other parts of Iowa until moving to a farm west of Murray in 1959. He had lived in the Murray community until moving to Thayer in 1975. Mrs. Hammond, 54, the former Emma E. Guiles, also was a native of Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Gertie Guiles. She was married to Ivan J. Hammond at Osceola on June 3, 1963. Ivan Joe Hammond, Jr., was born at Osceola, Sept. 4, 1964, and Dennis Laverne Hammond was born at Osceola on Sept. 17, 1966. Mr. Hammond is survived by a brother, Albert Hammond of Austin, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Luella Mae Carter of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Klaus (Rugh) Ostendorf of Marshalltown and Mrs. Grace Morris of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ester Hammond of Huxley. He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. Mrs. Hammond is survived by a sister, Mrs. Howard (Ida) Hibbard of Des Moines; and a brother, William Guiles, whose address is not known. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond were preceded in death by a daughter, Martha, who died in 1968[9]
