Biography

Dorothy Virginia Ginn Keith, 95, of Hendersonville died Monday, March 28, 2016 at Carolina Village Medical Center. She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Dorothy Wilfong and Alver Haines Ginn. Upon the death of her mother, she was raised in Pittsburgh, PA by her paternal grandparents: Claudia Haines and Alver W. Ginn. She came to Hendersonville in 1946 when she married David Alan Keith of Hendersonville, who preceded her in death in 1993. Survivors include her three daughters: Claudia Watts and her husband, Robert, of Black Mountain, NC; Barbara Eidson and her husband, James, of Spartanburg, SC; and Dorothy V. Keith of Woodruff, SC. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Roberts Watts, Jr. and his wife, Stacy, of Black Mountain, NC; Jennifer Weaver and her husband, David of Gainsville, GA; Stephen Eidson and his wife, Lisa, of Lawrenceville, GA; Stacey Eidson and her husband, Brian Neill, of Augusta, GA; Kim Simon and her husband, Marti, of Chapin, SC. Survivors also include seven great grandchildren; Cody Watts of Black Mountain, Saul and Isabelle Eidson of Lawrenceville, GA, Cooper and Ian Neill of Augusta, GA, Luke and Eli Simon of Chapin, SC. Mrs. Keith received her bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. It was there she began her lifelong interest in volunteerism when she organized bandage rolling for the Red Cross during World War II. After graduating, she joined the Pittsburgh Red Cross Motor Company where she drove at least five days a week. Upon moving to Hendersonville, she continued her volunteerism for more than 50 years in various organizations. She served the Blood Bank for 38 years, from the time of its inception until the system was computerized in the mid-1980s. At the Henderson County Public Library, she worked once a week for more than 20 years shelving books since 1972. At Pardee Hospital, she was a Pink Lady from 1958 to 2007 and served on the organization's auxiliary board. She was also a leader of a Girl Scout Troup and a founding member of Chapter O of PEO. As a long-time member of the First Methodist Church, she served for many years as circle leader, 6th grade Sunday School teacher and president and teacher of Ruth Johnson Class and the United Methodist Women's Board. She was also a Stephen Minister and a helper in My Sister's Closet. Her interests included a great love for traveling, researching genealogy, reading and studying history. A memorial service for Mrs. Keith will be held at Thos. Shepherd and Son Church Street Chapel on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. where a short visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. for close friends and relatives. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hendersonville Chapter of the American Red Cross at 203 2nd Ave E, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
