Biography

OBITUARY: Leroy Gonzales, age 79, of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on December 10, 2023.

Leroy was a kind soul who shared a wave and a “hello” with everyone he encountered. He enjoyed the simpler things in life, such as cruising through town aimlessly, listening to his favorite Spanish tunes on 89.1, or visiting a nearby yard sale just to browse.

He had spunk though! He enjoyed cheering on his favorite football team, the Broncos; visiting the casinos to play the slots and have a good old-fashioned conversation about anything to anyone.

Leroy was a devoted truck driver. The road is where his heart was. He was a diesel and gas mechanic and retired from the State Highway Department after many long and dedicated years.

In his later years, he lived with his loving daughter, Rita. They enjoyed the time together. Rita, for the sake of getting him out of the house, would take him to work with her some days. Leroy never turned down the opportunity, knowing that it meant being on the road, right where he loved to be.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Luriano and Estefanita Gonzales; his granddaughter, Andronica Marie Gonzales; and his sister-in-law, Angelene Gonzales.

He is survived by his children, Rita Marie Gonzales, Shannon LeAnn Gonzales, Elroy Gonzales, and Leonard (Judy) Gonzales; his siblings, Percy Gonzales, Isabel (Pablo) Gonzales, and Margie Gonzales. His partner of 20 years, Corine Jojola; grandchildren, Michael Roybal, Timothy Roybal, Timothy Gonzales, Vanessa Gonzales, and Jerome Gonzales; as well as 6 great-grandchildren.

Services for Leroy will take place at a later date in Dixon, New Mexico.
