A birth certificate for the birth of this Kenneth Frank Gravlin who was born September 17, 1920 in Athol, Worcester, Massachusetts to parents, Joseph A. Gravelin, a railroad hand born in Malone, New York and Gertrude E. m.n. Ramsdell, born in New Salem, Massachusetts. The record says he was born in the family home at 20 Swanzey St. in Athol.[1]

The 1930 US Census of Athol, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Kenneth F. Gravlin at the age of 9yrs old and given as biorn in Massachusetts. He is living there in Athol at what appears to read as 76 Bliss St. in the household of his mother's 2nd husband, 31yr old Albert R. Ovitt. Also living in the household is Kenneth's 27yr old mother, Gertrude L. and his three half-siblings, (children of the mutual relationship of Kenneth's mother Gertrude and Step-father, Albert), 5yr old Virginia M., 3yr old Ernest R. and 2yr old Earl D. (Ovitt).[2]

A newspaper article announcing that this Pvt. Kenneth Gravlin was Missing in Action somewhere in Italy since September 20, 1944, announced October 10, 1944. Of this Kenneth, this article also tells us he enlisted October 11, 1943, received his basic training at Camp Croft, South Carolina and went overseas in March of 1944. It also tells us he was married to the former Miss Irene Tebo of Tupper Lake, N.Y. (elsewhere in the article it mentions Tupper Lake, N.H.) and that they had two children; Xxxxxx and Xxxxxxx Jr., the latter born October 2, 1944. It says he was in an infantry division; that his father, Joseph Frank Gravlin died a year after he was born; that he received most of his education in Tupper Lake, N.H. (see above); that before enlisting, he was employed by Emporium Forestry Co. of Conifer, N.Y.; that he was born in Athol, Massachusetts; and speaking as if he was already dead it says he "leaves behind his mother, Mrs. Albert R. Ovitt, two half brothers, Ernest Ovitt and Earl Ovitt of Athol, Massachusetts and June, also of Athol.[3]
