George Frederick Green was born in Blackwall, England, United Kingdom on 12 June 1842. His father was Henry Green of Blackwall and Chichester Terrace, Brighton.
He enlisted in the British Army aged 18 years[1] and held the following ranks:
Ensign, 14th Regiment, by purchase, 3 August 1860[2]
Lieutenant, 14th Regiment, by purchase, 18 October 1864[3]
He served in the New Zealand Wars, was mentioned in the despatches for conspicuous forwardness in hte attack on the eney's rifle pits at Kohewa and again for conspicuous conduct during hte engagement at Rangariri.[9] He was awarded the New Zealand medal.[10]
On 7 October 1873 at Monkstown Church Captain George Frederick Green, 70th Regiment, son of Henry Green of Blackwall and Chichester Terrace, Brighton married Blanche Charlotte Roche, daughter of William Roche of Dunkip, Limerick, Ireland.
