Polly was born on December 11, 1820, [1] the daughter of Alexander Gray. [2]
She married Alfred Routh on August 16, 1838 in Randolph County, NC. [3]
In 1845, Polly gave birth to Isaac Lorenzo. [4] The three of them are living on there own in 1850. [5] Their second son, William Zachariah, was born in 1852. [2] By 1860, Polly and Alfred are living with son Isaac (now listed as 14) but William (age 8) is living with Henry and Sarah Ellison. [6] I'm not sure why he was living with the Ellisons, but Polly was about four months pregnant at the time. Research Notes
Her maiden name is spelled Grey on the marriage records, the only place I have found it. Where she is buried there are many Grays in the cemetery (and it is named Gray's Chapel). So I think there is a good chance her name was spelled Gray, but I think it is better to go with the spelling on an actual document over an assumption. Hennings-109 14:55, 15 April 2016 (EDT)
