Biography

OBITUARY: Manuelita Herrera, 91, of Manzano passed away Sept. 22 at the home of daughter Gloria and husband Eppy Paez in Mountainair. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in La Cienega, N.M. in 1915 and attended Mountainair High School. She met and married Antonio Herrera in 1933. Together they had 12 children. She was a member of Nuestra SeƱora de Dolores Catholic Church in Manzano, where she and her husband were mayordomos of the church three times and she also was a member of the Altar Society.

She is survived by a brother, Pedro and wife Dolores Griego of Albuquerque; sisters, Fedelina Garcia of Willard, Virgina Aragon, Carman Thompson and Mary Griego, all of Albuquerque; sons, Ignacio and wife Francis Herrera of Albuquerque, Eddy Herrera of Estancia, Arturo Herrera, Leroy Herrera and Ruth Ann Nelson of Manzano; daughters, Tillie Herrera Brummell of Mountainair, Isabel and husband Carlos Sanchez of Albuquerque, Diana and husband Mike Apodaca of San Bernardino, Calif., Cecilia and husband Arturo E. Sanchez of Bend, Ore., Gloria and husband Eppy Paez of Mountainair; grandson, Daniel Herrera Brummell, that she helped raise for six years. She loved her 2-year-old great-granddaughter Zoey Joe Brazil, who would come into her room every morning and say, Good Morning Little Grandma, I love you.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Antonio Herrera; three sons, Roberto, Antonio Jr. and Augustine Herrera; parents Maria and Salvador Griego; a brother, Sisto Griego; a sister, Adela Chavez; and a daughter-in-law, Loyola Herrera.

She was a wonderful grandmother and loved all her 31 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church of Manzano. Mass will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows with Father Stone officiating.
