Biography

email from Dick Grimes <dgrimes@aol.com> 19 Aug 2013:

"I do....as I recall Anson Gard's book "Pioneers of the Upper Valley...." lists William as being born in New Hampshire as does his obit in the Christian Guardian dated March 28th, 1850. But he was born in Goshen Ma. Jan 18th 1779 the son of Samuel Grimes and Mary (Hinkley) Grimes. Samuel was born Sept of 1740 and died 1/16/1789. He and Mary Hinkley were married May 8th 1768. As I recall some of the source work was found in the book History of Goshen, MA 1761-1880 by Hiram Barrus. I think I found the book as a online readable source by querying 'Grimes'. Been a few years for me here and I would need to dig into my files for better referencing ......

Don't know if you are interested but Samuel and Mary had several other children: James b 1769 in Brookfield, Samuel b 21 Sept 1770 in Goshen, Mary b 8 Mar 1772, Charles b 17 Jan 1774, Submit b 3 Aug 1775, Abigail b 2 Apr 1777, WILLIAM B 18 JAN 1779, Sarah b 4 Sept 1780..

Hope this helps and is informative....my best, Dick Grimes"
