1898 Ceylon is born on 6 November in Momence, Kankakee County, Illinois to John and Lizzie Grimes.[1]
1900 Ceylon is 2 years old and living in Yellowhead Township, Kankakee County, Illinois with his parents and five of his siblings.[2]
1910 The 1910 Census listing is full of written & transcription errors. Ceylon is listed as "Sysland Gruner," and his mother is listed as "Donsey Gruner" in the transcription and "Dousey Grimes" on the image. All of the other information for Ceylon appears to be correct with his estimated birth year at 1899, rather than the 1898 from his death record.[3]
1920 Ceylon continues to live with his parents in Yellowhead Township, Kankakee County, Illinois.[4]
1923 Ceylon marries Eleanor Hayhurst on 1 Sep in Kankakee County, Illinois.[5]
ca. 1926 Their daughter, Lucille, is born.[6]
ca. 1928 Their son, Kenneth, is born.[6]
1930 Eleanor and Ceylon are living in Manteno, Illinois with their two children, Lucille (4) and Kenneth (2).[6]
1931 Their son, Gilbert is born.[7]
1938 Gilbert dies at age 7.[7]
1940 Ceylon and Eleanor are living in Grant Park, Illinois. They have two children: Lucille (14) and Kenneth (12).[8]
1956 Ceylon passes away on 20 October at the age of 57. His marital status is "married." The transcription of his death record gives his parents' names as "John and Lizzy Grimes." He is buried in Union Corners Cemetery. The informant on his death record is Helen Smith.[1][9]
