Death: He passed away in the bus stop in Llanmartin on 15 Feb 2020[7] on his way to his local pub The Old Barn Inn.[8] The funeral service was held at Llanstone Vale Crematorium on 12 May 2020.[9]
His son Joe wrote this the residents of Underwood where Cavan lived: "My dad's funeral is this Tuesday and sadly, as you can imagine there is strict limitations on attendance at the service. Before heading to Langstone Vale we will be taking him for his last lap of the estate, first heading down Hazel Rd and then all around Waltwood Rd and up Birch. For any friends of Cav and our family who might want to pay their last respects, we will be coming around approx 11:45pm - 12:00pm He loved living in Underwood, we all did. As soon as the coast is clear we will be looking at a proper memorial service that all friends and family can attend"[10]

In the late 1970s I knew Cavan and the band quite well. My back has never quite recovered from lowering amps and speakers down through the beer hatch in the pavement outside the Hope & Anchor pub! With their support I was writing their story, a project which I never completed. Cavan's father was Bernard Grogan, and his mother was Audrey King. They married in Barrow On Soar in 1943, where Cavan's birth in Syston was registered a few years later. I stayed with Cavan and his wife Judith in Llanwern, and one of my great memories is taking a photo of Cavan mowing his lawn. He joked that the picture could ruin his career! As a result of my friendship with Cavan, I was able to meet Charlie Feathers, Buddy Knox, Warren Smith and Jack Scott at the Finsbury Park Rainbow (later Astoria). I tried so hard, but unsuccessfully, to arrange for the four of them to have a photo with Cavan and the band all at once, but at least I got Charlie and Cavan and his wife. My other photos were just of each of the performers alone. Another favourite photo is of me, holding Terry Walley's guitar, 'paint-autographed' by Chuck Berry. It was taken backstage at the Nashville Room in North End Road. Was it really 46 year ago?

Grogan once said on stage at the Skegness Rock n Roll festaval that he was born in Syston Leicestershire before moving to Wales as a child. He and the group headlined there, great does at Skegness the first one there were more police than fans next year about half a dozen cars, then they realised at our age we could handle the drink, hardly seen one after that.

Thanks for adding that memory, John. I bet there's quite some stories that could be told about Cavan  ;o)

I have added his birthplace, thanks to your comment.
