Biography

Luisa Guerra was a daughter of Ramon Guerra and Matilde Flores. She was born in/near, Mexico on 24 August 1861.

She married Avelino Vasquez on 27 August 1878 in Hidalgo County, Texas. Luisa and Avelino were the parents of at least three children. The exact details of this marriage are a mystery. Did Avelino die? Did Avelino abandon his wife and children? Did Luisa abandon her husband? Did Luisa and Avelino get a divorce?

The 1900 United States Census of Karnes County, Texas lists Luisa as married to Juan Crisostomo Gomez del Prado with six children: Pedro Gomez, Silvestre, Angelita, Julian, Nocencio, and Adelino. Pedro is listed as age 8. However, the 1910 Census lists Pedro Rodrigues as age 19. Research has shown that Pedro Rodrigues de Guerra was a son of Lucas Rodrigues and Luisa Guerra. Here lies another mystery... Were Lucas and Luisa ever married or did they have a one night stand? Research has also shown that Lucas Rodrigues was a "Teamster". Lucas died in 1917 in Oakville, Live Oak County, Texas. It is unknown if this Lucas Rodrigues is the same Lucas Rodrigues who fathered at least 30 children.

Luisa finally meets and marries Mr. Juan Gomez del Prado. They married on 10 January. 1894 in Karnes County, Texas. They had five children together.

Luisa died on March 4, 1935 in Karnes City, Karnes County, Texas.

She is buried in the Helena Latin Cemetery, Helena, Texas along with her parents, Ramon Guerra and Matilde Flores; her husband, Juan Crisostomo Gomez; some of her children, grandchildren, siblings, nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
