Biography

Ruth was born in 1904. She was the daughter of Albert Haftorson and Amelia Hansen. She passed away in 1994.

East Wenatchee - Ruth A. Johnson, 89, a 62-year resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 1994, in the Wenatchee Retirement Manor in East Wenatchee.

She was born March 18, 1904, to Albert B. and Amelia Carrie (Hanson) Hafterson at Spokane. At a young age she moved with her parents to Lane, Idaho, where she grew up and attended school. After graduating from high school, she attended Eastern Washington State College and graduated with a degree in education. She then taught school for the Cheney School District.

She married Lawrence B. Johnson on June 11, 1928, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They made their home at Spokane, where Mr. Johnson worked as a cook.

They moved to Wenatchee in 1932 and managed a restaurant for a friend before opening their own restaurant, Larry's Cafe, located on Mission Street. They later opened the Triple XXX Barrel Drive-In and Restaurant on Wenatchee Avenue. They opened Larry's Drive-In in East Wenatchee in 1954, and operated it until retiring in 1967.

Mr. Lawrence died on Jan. 17, 1989, and Mrs. Johnson continued to make her home in East Wenatchee.

She was a life member of the Lake Chelan Yacht Club.

She is survived by a son, Larry of East Wenatchee; a daughter, Mrs. William C. (June) Korb of Malibu, Calif.; two brothers, Harold of Boise, Idaho, and Albert of Arlington; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
