Mary's son David joined the NZ Mounted Rifles and died in South Africa in 1902. His service records include lengthy correspondence detailing the fate of two pianos he requested be sold for the benefit of his mother. Sadly, she died in 1904 before the pianos could be sold, and the proceeds then went to a War Veteran's hospital. Thomas Fogarty was in an Old Mens' Home in Timaru, one daughter was in service in Timaru and another living in Christchurch. The younger children were in state care in 1904. [1]
