Biography

Otto Conrad Hahn, since 1788 „von Hahn“ [1], (* February 1756 in Medingen[2]), was a German administrative lawyer and merchant. He was the son of the Oberamtmann Johann Conrad Hahn in Medingen, and Dorothea Margaretha (Oldenburg) Hahn.

On 21 October 1773, Otto Conrad Hahn enrolled for a degree in legal sciences at the University of Göttingen. He became a member of the Hannöversche Landesmannschaft [3] , and was initially its adjutant general from Easter 1775 until after Michaelmas 1776 (29 September) and its senior from 13 January 1777 until 8 November of that year [4] .

In 1778, he married Johanna Charlotte Friederike Adelheid von Bilguer from Neustadt in Upper Silesia (Geneanet).

The couple had five children:
Wilhelmina Charlotte Friedericka Elisabeth (* October 1780)
Alexander Johann Otto Wilhelm (* August 1782)
Luisa Friederica Christiana Carolina (* 31 July 1786)
Charlotta Christiane Henriette Albertine (* 20 June 1790)
Friedrich Ludwig Adam Otto (* September 1791)

Hahn attained the title of Prussian Kammerrat (chamber councillor) [5] and was ennobled as "von Hahn" by the imperial nobility on 6 December 1788 [1].

He was one of the most important traders for Mecklenburg agricultural property in the early period of upheaval, the so-called „Walzengütern“ [6] .

In the period from 1792 to 1795, the Badekow, Bretzin, Gresse, ,Karow and Leisterförde estates, among others, passed through his hands as temporary estate owners before he became insolvent on his Charlottenthal estate near Krakow am See.

He acquired the Gresse estate from the Danish chamberlain A. Friedrich von Witzendorf in 1792 and sold it to the bailiff Gebser in 1795.

During his time as lord of the manor at Gresse, he had a relationship with Catharina Elisabeth Eick, the daughter of the Bailiff in Gresse, who was also his estate manager. The relationship produced their daughter Dorothea Jacobina Christiana Burchardina (Hahn) Westphal ), who was born in Gresse on 25 December 1794 [7] . When Hahn sold Gresse in 1795, his daughter Dorothea Jacobina Christiana Burchardina and her mother remained in Gresse.

In 1793, his book "Ein Wörtchen zu seiner Zeit des von Hahn auf Gresse u. s. w. über die Schiffbarmachung der Elde" was published. [8]

Otto Conrad vom Hahn died on 14 December 1804 on his leasehold estate in Eldena. The funeral service was held in Schwerin Cathedral and he was subsequently buried on the Eldena estate on 16 December 1802) [9] .
