Biography
Emma Anne was born in 1852 at Longfleet, Dorset, the daughter of William Hallard and Marina Hallard formerly Grant. A birth registration has not been located for her.
Emma Anne Hallard was baptised on 30 May 1852 in the parish of Longfleet. Her parents were named as William Hallard, a servant, and Marina Hallard, of Longfleet. [1]
In the 1861 census Emily [sic] was living with her parents at Lytchett Matravers, Dorset. Aged 9, she was attending school. [2]
In the 1871 census Emma was a visitor at the home of George and Emma Povey in Weybridge, Surrey. Aged 18, her occupation was recorded as a domestic servant. [3]
In 1881 she was back living with her parents in Spetisbury Village, Dorset. Aged 28, she was working as a dressmaker. [4]
In 1891 Emma was living with her maternal aunt Elizabeth Grant and two of her sisters at Main Rd, Spetisbury. Aged 35 [sic], she was still working as a dressmaker. [5]
In 1901 Emma was living with her father, maternal aunt and sister Elizabeth at Victoria Rd, Cowes, Isle of Wight. Emma, aged 48, and Elizabeth, aged 42, were working from home as costumiers. [6]
It appears Emma and Elizabeth moved to Cheshire where brothers Francis and Edwin were living following their fathers death in 1903.
Emma Anne Hallard died in 1908 at Crewe, Cheshire aged 56 years. [7]
