Biography
Archibald was born in 1835.[1] He was the son of John Hamill and Margaret (Robinson) Hamill.
He married Sarah Hunter about 1856.[2]
They had children:
Margaret Hamill (1859)
Archibald Hamill (1865-1954)
George Hammill [TBC]
Archibald, Sarah and daughter Margaret emigrated to New Zealand on the Rhea Sylvia , arriving at Lyttleton on 2 May 1861.[3] [4] [5] [6] Also on the voyage were his parents and brother James, with his wife Mary.
The family settled in Christchurch where John Hamill and his sons set up in business as wheelwrights.
After his father's death in 1869 Archibald worked as a cab driver.[7]
He passed away in November 1917, aged 82 years,[8] and is buried in Barbadoes Street Cemetery, Christchurch.[9] [10]
