James was the son of John Hamilton and Margaret Hamilton.
He married firstly, Margaret Hamilton, daughter of William Hamilton of Udston and Margaret Hamilton, [1] on 19 Feb 1606 at the age of 16.[2][3][4] They had issue:

He is described as both a Baronet and as a Knight. <[5]
He was created 1st Baronet Hamilton, of Broomhill [Nova Scotia] on 5 January 1635, which included a grant of 16,000 acres in Nova Scotia (of which he never had seizin).
He held the office of Sheriff of Perthshire.

I didn't post the coat of arms, that is not my thing. However I see a comment there that says Hamilton of Broomhill coat of arms. http://www.roskildehistorie.dk/stamtavler/adel/svenske/Hamilton/Broomhill.htm which gives a bit of history about the coat of arms and it is the same as the one you propose. Looking at it I can see the difference to the one that is on the profile. Like I said coats of arms etc are really not my thing so I will try to swap them around. I think that worked, maybe the reference is not right but ..... JH
