Biography

William Henry was born on the 20 April 1828 at Lambeth Road, in the District of Lambeth, south of the City of London, London Borough of Lambeth, in Surrey, England. His parents were Maltster/Victualler, James (Hancock) and Ann (Rennels), who married on the 27 May 1822 at the Parish Church of Saint Peter, Church Lane, in the River-Port Town of Barnstaple, at the River Taw's lowest crossing point before the Bristol Channel in North Devon, England^[1]. James (Hancock) was born in the Town of Barnstaple in Devon around 1797 and Ann (Rennels) was also born in Barnstaple around 1799.

William Henry (Hancock) gains his Certificate of Service (number 61220) in the Merchant Navy (Foreign Trade) on the 14 March 1851. His occupation is listed as being an Apprentice Seaman and Mate and the Certificate is awarded in the City of London, England. It seems as if he has been in the Merchant Navy for seven years at the time, which explains why he doesn't appear in any of the Census Records^[5].

Death

It is not clear when Henry William (Hancock) passes away but it is before the Census of 1891 as Amelia is recorded as a widow.
