Biography
"The parish of Hanmer nourished great men in our national life. Dafydd ap Edmund, who lived here from 1425-1500 was one of the greatest of poets in the Welsh tongue. Humphrey Hanmer the third son of Sir William Hanmer was baptized in St. Chad’s on the 29th April 1592 and emigrated to West Virginia in about 1630 to become the ancestor of the Hamners of America."
Humphrey (Nicholas's grandfather) immigrated to the Western part of Virginia or to the part of Virginia that would become West Virginia as West Virginia did not achieve statehood until June 20, 1863.
