Obituary

Cordell Martin Harder, Clarkston resident, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 near Genesee, Idaho where he was working at the time. He was 72. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 28th at 10:00 am at the Colfax Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Cordell was born March 27, 1938 in Colfax to Adolf and Loretta (Baldwin) Harder. He grew up on a farm and attended school in Palouse until the first grade when the family moved closer to Colfax. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1957. Cordell attended Columbia Basin Junior College in Pasco for a time before returning to this area and attending Washington State University. He was a tremendous athlete and played basketball for the Cougars. He married Rosemary Scholz October 6, 1961. Cordell loved farming and they farmed near Garfield for many years and started raising their family there. He and Rosie later divorced. Cordell retired from farming in 1982 and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He owned and operated the Nevada Brass Corporation for several years. He returned to the Palouse in 2000 and has worked for various farmers in the area since. Cordell moved to Clarkston four years ago and at the time of his death he was engaged to Joanie Elgas of Clarkston. Cordell always enjoyed sports, especially basketball and baseball. He loved to referee and he was a well known coach in the Garfield area. He also was an avid trap-shooter and was past-president of the Washington State Trap shooters Association. He loved hunting, especially geese and ducks and he liked to fish for steelhead. He is survived by his 4 children; Dan (Tammie) Harder, Colfax, Karlene (Rick) Wahl, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Bobette (Kelly) Rambo of Tekoa, WA. and Kyle Harder of Dusty, WA.; 2 brothers, Karl (Mary) Harder of Spokane and Ronald (Marilyn) Harder of Colfax and his fiancé’, Joanie Elgas at their home in Clarkston. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roger. The family suggests memorials be made to the Colfax Youth League, P.O. Box 185, Colfax, WA. 99111.
