Biography

Bernard was born in 1919. He was the son of Charlotte Portsmouth Barber and Harry Eustace Harding. [1]

In 1921, he was living with his father, 2 step-siblings, mother and his aunt who was a visitor. [2]

His father died when he was only 16 years old (1935), and he got into some trouble after this and was sent to a Borstal (youth detention centre) in 1939. [3]

He was sentenced to 6 months hard labour in 1944, after stealing from a lodger in his widowed mother's house. [4]

He died on 15 June 1945, age 26, from cancer of the intestine. His death was witnessed by his mother, C.M. Harding at her house at 9 Devonshire Square Southsea. [5]
