Biography

Elizabeth was baptised [1] on the 13 November at Christ Church , second child, first daughter of four born to Andrew Harris, a Gas Fitter, and Annie Mills.

The 1861 census shows Elizabeth aged eight, living in Swan Village West Bromwich with her parents and all four of her siblings [2]

Sadly her mother passed away in 1865 and was buried at Christ Church on the 25 July [3] ++. Elizabeth's father remarried the following year [4]. Records suggest + his wife, Mary Ann, gave birth to a son, Joseph, step brother to Elizabeth, in the autumn of that year [5], a daughter, Jane Maria, follows three years later. The 1871 census [6] shows the family resident in West Bromwich, Elizabeth herself is not staying with them.

Elizabeth marries John Fellows in the spring of 1874 [7] having given birth to their first son Andrew in the January [8]. Two further sons, Thomas [9] and Edward [10], are born before the census of 1881 [11] , which records the family living at 'Old Forge', West Bromwich +++,. Their one and only daughter, Mary Elizabeth, is born on the 30 June of that year [12].

The 1891 [13] census finds Elizabeth, aged thirty eight, working as a char woman, still in the Old forge area +++ of West Bromwich with her four children, The record shows Elizabeth to be a 'widow' all indications are that her husband John has passed sometime after the census of 1881, research however fails to realise his death details. There is no record of Elizabeth, or any family member, on the 1901 UK census, further research reveals a record [14] on the USA census that is, in all probability, the family including husband John, living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the only absent member is son Andrew. Still further research shows Andrew to be living nearby with his (Milwaukee wed) wife, Laura, and in-laws Jacob and Sarah Yates [15].

Notes

+ Support for 1866 as Josephs birth year taken from 1870 census which shows Joseph aged and the 1881 census aged fourteen, no reference on baptism transcription, original birth certificate not viewed.

++ Christ Church - needs an explanation as to what happened to it WIP (TC)
