George was born on 11 November 1896 at Reefton, Buller, West Coast, New Zealand. He was the son of Arthur Hardy Harris and Margaret Fleming. [1]
Private Harris was serving with the Territorials Reserve ('D' Company, 13th Regiment) before enlisting with the NZEF on 13 Jun 1917. Civilian Occupation: Assistant Storeman; Consolidated Gold Fields, Reefton, New Zealand.
He started his Infantry Training on 25 July 1917 and was sent overseas from Wellington on 13 October 1917. He served for over a year with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment overseas. He sailed home on 24 October 1918 and was discharged from service on 26 December 1918.
He married Greta Winifred Burgess in 1941 in New Zealand. [2]
In later life his occupation was as a Forest Ranger.
He passed away on 11 September 1984 at Blenheim, Marlborough, New Zealand.
He was buried at Fairhall Cemetery, Blenheim, Marlborough District, Marlborough, New Zealand. [3]
