Josiah was born in 1755. He passed away in 1821.
U.S. Congressman. He was a general merchandising businessman and served as a Second Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment of Ulster County, New York Militia, in 1780. He was also supervisor of New Paltz, (1784-86, 93-94, 99-1805) and a member of the New York State Assembly, (1796-97, 1802, 06).
In 1803, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John Cantine, serving until 1805. He was again elected to the Fifteenth Congress, serving (1817-19).
After leaving Congress, he engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death.
