There is an entry for a Samuel HOUGH who lived in Boston as a silversmith. There is another entry showing Samuel HAUGH as an innholder and retailer of spirits. One of these was a 2d Sgt, A&HA Company. Samuel and Margaret had at least one ch named Sarah and probably others.
  2. Anna Haugh (27 Jan 1676/77 Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts[3] -
  3. Atherton Haugh (12 Jan 1677/78 Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay[4] - ) may be the person who on 11 July 1699 in Boston, MA, md Marcy WINTHROP (1673 - 16 Nov 1702, ae 29, bur in Chelsea Old Burying Groung). Atherton HOUGH was apparently master of a whaling vessel in July, 1737 when an accident on board killed one of his crew members. There are other entries for Atherton HOUGH which suggest there was a younger person of that same name. In the Great Boston Fire of 1760, the Mackrel Lane home of Captain Atherton HOUGH was completely consumed. Between 15 Oct 1764 and 2 Oct 1765, Captain Atherton HOUGH md Joan DOANE, widow of John DOANE. One Atherton HOUGH died 19 Aug 1771.

Hough lineage is Samuel, Jr, and Ann (Rainsford) of MA; Samuel and Sarah (Symmes) of England and MA; Atherton and Elizabeth (Bulkeley) of England and MA;

Notes:

  • Samuel Seawall noted his death in his diary. [2]
  • Spelling of surname for this family alternated between Haugh and Hough. If a direct male descendant took a Y-DNA test, it would be interesting to see if he matches the descendants of the Hough individuals from Cheshire, England who arrived in America in the 1600's.
