Samuel Haugh/Hough (18 Sep 1651 Reading, Middlesex, Massachusetts[1] - 25 June 1679 Boston, Massachusetts) was the son of Samuel Haugh.
He md Ann Rainsford in 1675 and lived in Boston. He is noted as a constable in 1679. "Constable held town office" [1] He died insolvent, and his property could not be sold to pay his debts. His mother, Mrs. BROCK, had a life tenancy to his house in Boston. His farm in Cambridge was jointly owned with other heirs of his father. Samuel and Ann had three ch before he died.
Samuel Haugh (1 Feb 1675/76 Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay[2] -prob. 1717 Boston, MA) seems to be the person who on 30 Sep 1697 in Boston, MA, md Mrs. Margaret (COWELL) JOHNSON ( ), widow of John JOHNSON. There is an entry for a Samuel HOUGH who lived in Boston as a silversmith. There is another entry showing Samuel HAUGH as an innholder and retailer of spirits. One of these was a 2d Sgt, A&HA Company. Samuel and Margaret had at least one ch named Sarah and probably others.

Atherton Haugh (12 Jan 1677/78 Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay[4] - ) may be the person who on 11 July 1699 in Boston, MA, md Marcy WINTHROP (1673 - 16 Nov 1702, ae 29, bur in Chelsea Old Burying Groung). Atherton HOUGH was apparently master of a whaling vessel in July, 1737 when an accident on board killed one of his crew members. There are other entries for Atherton HOUGH which suggest there was a younger person of that same name. In the Great Boston Fire of 1760, the Mackrel Lane home of Captain Atherton HOUGH was completely consumed. Between 15 Oct 1764 and 2 Oct 1765, Captain Atherton HOUGH md Joan DOANE, widow of John DOANE. One Atherton HOUGH died 19 Aug 1771.
Hough lineage is Samuel, Jr, and Ann (Rainsford) of MA; Samuel and Sarah (Symmes) of England and MA; Atherton and Elizabeth (Bulkeley) of England and MA;
Spelling of surname for this family alternated between Haugh and Hough. If a direct male descendant took a Y-DNA test, it would be interesting to see if he matches the descendants of the Hough individuals from Cheshire, England who arrived in America in the 1600's.
