Vital was the son of Fridolin Josef and Katharina (Noser) Hauser. He worked as a business man and a doctor in general practice. Vital studied at the Einsiedeln Abbey School from 1902 to 1904, in London from 1907-1908, at the Institute Minerva Zurich and Matura in Lucerne from 1908-1909. He began his medical studies in 1909, first in Zurich, then Geneva, Basel, Lausanne and Zurich. Vital completed his military service from 1914 to 1915. He married Rosa (Ella) Meier on 15 February 1915. Together they had three sons and three daughters. Vital owned a restaurant in Stäfa with men's and women's fashion, jersey goods, wholesale and endétail, as well as general Monte Christo cigar dealership. From 1920 to 1958 Vital practiced medicine at his country doctor's practice in Näfels. Vital hunted until old age and unfortunately was infected with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) while hunting in Scotland, most likely from being bitten by an infected tick. He was the first owner of the Sulzboden-Hütte, which now functions as a youth hostel.[1]
