Biography

Martha was the daughter of William Henry Hawkes & Sophia Reynolds. In the 1881 Census it states that she was a widower.

On her daughter Margaret Hannah Duffield's marriage record it states that her father's name was Charles Duffield and he was a Shoemaker. The marriage was witnessed by Robert Duffield who might have been her uncle or another relation.

Also cannot find either Martha or Charles in the 1871 Census which would have shed more light on getting the facts right.

Robert Duffield, maybe a brother of Charles, witnessed her daughters marriage, so her husband could be Charles William Duffield, whom was the son of Robert Duffield & Lydia Coldham. Charles had a brother named Henry Robert, born 1850 who might be the witness on Margaret Hannah Duffield's marriage record. Charles also had a brother Ephraim whom lived in Bethnal Green in the early 1870s, so maybe that might be how his brother Charles ended up in London for a few years and where he must have met Martha.
