George Hawley was born on November 30, 1805 in Shelffield, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of William Hawley and Mary Tagg.

He married Ruth Granger (1804-1872) on April 18, 1824, in St Peter and Paul, Sheffield, England.^[1] They are thought to have had 8 children.

They made their home in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.

He died at age 76, In October 1882, in Sheffield, Yorkshire West Riding, England.
