Joseph Hawley, s. of Joseph Hawley, was b. Jan. 9, 1649, in Stratford, Connecticut.[1][2][3]
Joseph, was not named in the will of his father Joseph written in 17 Sept 1689. Children of Joseph were not mentioned either.[3] It is safe to assume he died without issue, and probably as a young child.
From the Hawley Record. He lived to be forty one, but had no known wife. He was the owner of land 12 June 1671. 31 Oct 1687, Joseph (Sr.), his father, gave land which had been set aside for his son Joseph (the 38 years) to Capt. Joseph, son of Samuel, who was but twelve. This indicates that Joseph (the son) was deceased or incapacitated, since his property was being passed to the following generation.
The Hawley Record has what is supposed to be a facsimile of his stone, which does seem to read June 25, 1691, but this date is after the will of his father. Further confirmation that this stone belongs to this person would be good.
