William Hay, son of William Hay (abt.1835-1909) and Isabella Laurie Houliston (1839-abt.1902), was born on 17 Oct 1873 in Coldingham, Berwickshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.^[1]

In the 1881 census William (age 7) was the son of William Hay at Ag. Lab. Cottage Ninewells Mains Farm, Chirnside, Berwickshire. He was a Scholar.^[2]

In the 1891 census William (age 17) was the son of William Hay in Duns Road Farm Cottage, Ayton, Berwickshire. He was an Ag Lab.^[3]

William may have married Georgina Mercer

In the 1901 census William (age 26) was the head of household in West Flemington Farm Cottage, Ayton, Berwickshire. He was a Ploughman.^[4]

Research Notes

There are several sources with William and Isabella as parents, but the birth location for the parents and children do not match, so there are several in same time frame.

Find A Grave: Memorial #206240558 is for William Hay, b 1836, d 5 Jul 1909. The inscription states William Hay erected it for his wife Isabella who died 1902, so it is for the older William Hay. It also states that William died 1909, age 74, which matches to the birth year of abt 1835/1836, so the death date is not for the person that was born 1873
