She was married to 17 year old Clarence Payne on the 1920 Federal Census at the age of 17. They either divorce or she dies early because her son says that his mother is Pansy J. Payne by 1930. The 1930 U.S. Federal Census shows that Pansy is a different person. She was first married at 19 and she was born in Missouri. The confusion deepens because the sons shown on that census are C.R. Jr. 9 and Thomas Ray 8.

She gave birth to 8 children and 6 are still living and married for 23 years. Children are son James M. 17; son Collier 15; daughter Bonnie M. 13; daughter Velma 8; daughter Ila M. (Mae) 5.
