Scroop - Heinrich Wedding
On Saturday, 20th April, in glorious autumn sunshine the pretty wedding was solemnised by the Rev. Barrett, of Gladys M. elder daughter or Mr. and Mrs S. Scroop and George E., fourth son of Mr. and the late Mrs. G. A. Heinrich. The dainty bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore an off white flat silk crepe long-waisted frock. The skirt, which was gathered fully all around, merged into a short train at the back. The bodice was ruck ed down the centre front, and heavy silk thread was worked across the yoke. The back of the bodice was finished with small white covered buttons from neck to long waist-line. The bride's fine tulle veil (kindly loaned by her aunt, Mrs. A. M. Hirschausen) was arranged cap fashion with stiffened- points and was held in place with a circlet of orange blossom, brilliants and pearls. The edge of the veil was outlined with silver tape and a bow of silver tape was arranged in each corner with sprays of orange blossom. The bride's engagement ring was placed in one corner with a bow of narrow blue ribbon. She carried a shower bouquet of choice mixed white blooms. She wore silver footwear and long white kid gloves. Her only jewellery was a brilliant and pearl brooch belonging to her mother, and she also carried a beautiful lace handkerchief which belonged to her late grandmother (Mrs. A. Hirschausen). The bride was attended by four bridesmaids, her only sister Aileen, Misses Valma and Merle Hirschau sen (young sisters of the bride's mother) and Miss Roma Sellars, cousin of bride. Aileen and Merle wore long-waisted frocks of a delicate shade of blue silk crepe The fronts of skirts were softly gathered on to a down peaked corselet waist, and the back of skirt gored. The V shaped yokes of bodices were gathered on to the up peaks of the corselet waists. The back bodices finished with flights of covered buttons. Valma and Roma wore frocks of a be coming shade of pink silk crepe which were replicas of the blue frocks. They wore respectively blue and pink tulle head gear arranged halo fashion; the soft folds of the tulle falling over the back of the head and a circlet of blue and pink flowers outlined the front of the halo. They chose silver foot wear and blue and pink tulle mittens respectively, and carried posies of blue and pink flowers arranged in stiffened blue and pink net. They also wore the bridegroom's gift of a brilliant dress brooch and earrings. The bridegroom was attended by his two brothers. Charles and Fred as bestman and groomsman respectively. Lucky horse-shoes were hung on the bride's arm by Pattie Launer (bridegroom's niece) and Margaret Hirschausen and Brian Sellars (cousins of bride). The choir was in attendance and Miss Avis Bruce was at the organ. The church decorations were carried out by the Choir girls. During the signing of the register Mrs. Brooks very feelingly sang "I'll Walk Beside You." After the ceremony the guests were received at the Memorial Hall (where the reception was held), by the bridal party - Mr. and Mrs. Scroop, Mr Heinrich, Mrs Kavanagh (sister of Mr. Heinrich) The bride's mother wore a blue frock, beaded in black, with a black felt hat relieved with blue feathers and net. Black shoes and accessories and a shoulder spray of autumn flowers completed the ensemble. Mrs. Kavangh wore a smart blue frock with black accesories and an autumn shoulder spray. The usual toasts were honored at the buffet luncheon and many congratulatory telegrams read. The three-storeyed wedding cake was made by the bride's mother, and beautifully iced by Miss Joyce Earle. Table decorations were in charge of Mrs. A. L. Bence. The bridal party left in cars at 3 p.m. for Gawler for photographing. The bride travelled in a smart blue ensemble. The yoke and waistline of the frock was worked in navy silk and also the short sleeves and pockets of the coat. She wore a smart little blue felt hat, trimmed with navy cord, navy American gabardine shoes, navy handbag and gloves. Many useful and costly presents were received The honeymoon was spent at Victor Harbour.[8]
