Biography

Andrew was born in Virginia in 1797. He was the son of Henry Helm and Barbara Everhart. ^[1]

Andrew appeared in the household of his father Henry Helm for the 1810 U.S. Census at Burksville, Russell County, Kentucky. He was identified as a male age 16-25, although his age was probably an error. ^[2]

Andrew did not appear in his father's household for the 1820 census. He would have been about 22 years old at the time. ^[3]

Andrew married Rebecca Blakey on 18 August 1835 at Adair County, Kentucky.^[1]

Andrew Helm was listed at Russell County, Kentucky for the 1840 U.S. Census. ^[4] Members of his household included:

• 2 males age 0-5
• 1 male age 30-40
• 1 female age 0-5
• 3 females age 5-10
• 1 female age 10-15
• 1 female age 30-40
• 2 persons employed in agriculture.
• His Brother-in-law Robert Blakey was living nearby.

In 1850 Andrew was listed at District 1, Russell County as a 54 year old farmer, born in Virginia and unable to read or write. He was living his wife and their children: Barbara, Catherine, George, Henry, Sally and Allan. ^[5]

Andrew appeared at McDowell Township, Post Office Gadfly, Barry County, Missouri in 1860. He was enumerated as Andrew Helams, a 60 year old farmer with a personal estate of $175 and born in Kentucky. He was living with his wife and their three children: Henry, Sarah and Ellen. ^[6]

In 1870 Andrew was listed at Ozark Township, Post Office Mt. Vernon, Lawrence County, Missouri. He was recorded as 70 years old, born in Kentucky and retired. He had a personal estate of $200 and was living with his wife Rebecca and their son Henry. ^[7]

Andrew was still in Ozark Township in 1880. He was listed as 78 years old, born in Kentucky. He and his wife Rebecca were living on charity. ^[8]
