'CAUTION'

There is no primary source record that names the parents of Allen Hemingway. His mother Lucretia is identified as Lucretia Smith in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records. The will of Jacob Hemingway dated 1837 identifies his daughter Lucretia and grandson Allen Himingway. There are several internet sites that incorrectly identify Jacob Street Hemingway, the uncle of Allen, as his father.

died 29 Nov 1886 at Chicago buried in Union Ridge Cemetery, Norwood Park, Chicago ^[3]

"... died Sunday evening, at the age of 78 years ... in business at Terryville for 24 years before coming to Chicago. ... was superintendent of the Sunday school of the Jefferson Congregational Church ... leaves a widow, three daughters and two sons, one of whom, A. T. Hemingway, is the General Secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association." ^[4]
