RESEARCH NOTES
This man, called William "the Immigrant", is probably the ancestor of some of the Tidewater Henderson lines, although his family is unknown. There is no entry data nor surviving land grant for him. In the 1650s he was seated up the Mattapony along Heartquake Creek on land that became King and Queen Co.
At some time before 1660 he married Ann Hopkins, daughter of William Hopkins and his wife Elizabeth. After Hopkins died Elizabeth married William Hudson, and they had a daughter, Elizabeth.
In November of 1660 William Henderson was directed by the Court of York Co to assume the administration of the estate of William Hudson, and to supervise the legacy of Elizabeth Hudson, minor half sister of his wife Ann. The appraisal suggests that the Hudson property straddled the York/K&Q line. The following month, December 1660, the valuation of the estate of Elizabeth Hudson, dec'd. that lay in York Co. was admitted to court, and signed by William Henderson.
I am guessing Wm Henderson at 35-40 years, although he could be the William born to Gilbert in Perth in 1615. He was probably father or grandfather of the Hendersons in the K & Q 1704 rent roll. References to him in land records continue into the 1680s.
DNA evidence continues to mount, and is beginning to suggest that the immigrant Hendersons were somehow connected.
