FATHER OF 22 CHILDREN DIES
Henry Hendricks, Sr., Is a Victim of Heart Disease at Age of 76
Henry Hendricks, Sr., aged and well-known resident of Madison County, died this morning at 4:30 o'clock at his home near Wood River following a long illness due to heart disease.
He was born on April 29, 1851 at Amt Sticklausen, Ostfriesland, Germany and with his parents came to America when he was six years of age. The family settled near Alton where Mr. Hendricks spent his entire life engaged in agriculture.
At the age of 23 he was united in marriage with Miss Gustina Kramer who preceded him in death April 9, 1892. This union was blessed with ten children, namely, August, Ed, Earnest, Henry Jr., George, Mayme, Fred, Emma, Leo, and one child which died shortly after birth.
On August 23, 1892 he was again united in marriage with Miss Esther Campbell, this second union bearing 12 children, namely, David, Virgina, Pearl, Tillie, Frank, Charles, Wm., Earl, Adaline, Mae, Ruby, and Arnold.
During his lifetime Mr. Hendrick (sic) proved himself to be one of the most successful farmers of this vicinity. About four years ago he retired from active farming but continued to reside on the farm place.
He is survived by his wife Esther, 17 children, August, Ernest, Henry Jr., George, Fred, David, Mrs. Mayme Bender, Mrs. Emma Westerhold, Leo, Mrs. Virginia Bartels, Mrs. Tillie Upple, Charles, Earl, Mrs. Rev. A. J. Idecker, Mrs. Mae Fields, Ruby, and Arnold, two sisters, Mrs. Fred Penning, Sr. of Wood River, Mrs. Henry Eckhard of East Alton and 28 grand children. The funeral will be at 2:30 Tuesday in the Wood River Evangelical Church.
Preceding the services at the church there will be a short service at the residence on the Edwardsville road at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. Robert Kofer, pastor of St. Peter's Evangelical Church of Granite City, will have charge of both services.
Interment will be at the Wanda cemetery.

Living with them were August, age 24; Ernst, age 21; Henry, age 18; George, age 17; Mamie, age 15; Emma, age 12; Leo, age 10; David, age 6; Virgie, age 5; Tillie, age 2; and Frank, age 1[12]
