Margaret Jane Hendry was born on 26 January 1882 in Stockton, County Durham, England, daughter of Joseph Hendry and Annie (Blackwood) Hendry. ^[1][2][3]

She married Alfred Harnsby on 5 October 1905 at St John the Baptist, Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, England, ^[4] They had a son Alfred Collier Hornsby b.1910.
