Biography

OBITUARY: Funeral services for Aniceto "Cheto" Herrera Jr., 61, of Giddings, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Miguel Duarte officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. A Rosary will be recited Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral Home.

Aniceto Lopez Herrera Jr. was born on November 26, 1957 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps, Mexico. He was the son of Aniceto Herrera Sr. and Maria Elena (Lopez) Herrera. He had been married to Mary del Socorro Henao for the past 30 years. Aniceto was a mason by trade and a self-employed building contractor for many years. He helped to lay the brick for the current sanctuary for St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings. For the past 10 years he had been employed by Pumpco in Giddings. He and his wife also owned Mary’s Imports in Giddings. Aniceto loved soccer and helped sponsor soccer and volleyball leagues while he lived in Connecticut. He loved to read and even as a child he would hide under his bed with a flashlight so he could continue to read after his bedtime. He also collected baseball caps.

Aniceto passed away unexpectedly the afternoon of Saturday, October 19, 2019 near Pecos, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; three sisters, Rosa Herrera, Sylvia Herrera, and Ofelia Saucedo, and one brother, Raul Herrera.

Aniceto is survived by his wife, Mary Henao of Giddings; two daughters, Christie Diaz & her husband, Felix of Austin and Rachel Herrera of Manor; one son, Willie Henao & his wife, Melissa of Reno, Nevada; five grandchildren, Cristina Birdwell & her husband, Matthew of Manor, Juan Jose Diaz & his wife, Makayla of Fort Carson, Colorado, Yamileth Diaz of Austin, Marissa Anderson & her husband, Tevin of Ft. Hood, and Alyssa Mendez of Manor; five adopted grandchildren, Carlos Arturo Guzman & his wife Alicia of Austin, Gloria Guzman & her husband, Alfonso of Pflugerville, Dinora Diaz & her husband Jorge Zuniga of Austin, Felix Diaz & his wife, Karla of Austin, and Karina Diaz of Austin; one great granddaughter, Elena Sofia Diaz of Fort Carson,Colorado and numerous adopted great grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, Braulio Herrera of Laredo, Carmen & Don Spivey of Giddings, Roberto & Guadalupe Herrera of Giddings, Marcelina & Raymond Nunes of Giddings, Juan Herrera of Giddings, Martha Hernandez of Giddings, Laura & Victor Orocio of Giddings, and Gabriel & Deina Herrera of La Grange. Aniceto is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Herrera, Juan Jose Diaz, Paul Herrera, Robert Herrera, Carlos Arturo Guzman, Javier Saucedo, Jesse Saucedo, and Kevin Spivey. Honorary pallbearers will be Domingo Rodriguez, Willie Henao, and Mark Herrera.

Memorials may be made to St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings or to the charity of one’s choice.
