Newspaper Notice Mr. Alfred Hewson - Well Known Builder - The death has occurred after a short illness of Mr. Alfred Hewson, wellknown Auckland builder and contractor, in his 81st year. Born in Lincolnshire, England, Mr. Hewson came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Matoaka in 1859. Mr. Hewson came to Auckland to learn the carpentering trade. Later he commenced building and contracting, the firm being known as Hewson and McNaught Mr. Hewson was formerly chairman of the Ellerslie Town Board and a member of the Ellerslie School Committee. He was also a past master of Lodge Wairoa, No.55 N>Z.C. He married Miss Sarah Hill, daughter of the late James Hill and there was a family of 10 children, seven of whom are living.
