Alora was Mashpee Wampanoag.

Melora, aka: Alora E. (Hicks) Gray was a Native American born in 1844 and passed away in 1895. She was the daughter of Francis Hicks and Mercy Low. Wife of William Gray.

In 1849 and 1861, Melora Hicks was recorded as a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.^[1] Melora E. Hicks^[2]

• 1844: Melora E. Hicks was 18yo. when her birth was recorded at Mashpee, Barnstable, Massachusetts. Parents: Hebron Hicks and Mercy Low.^[3]

• 30 Sept 1865: Alora, 21yo. married to William Gray, 24yo. (born Virginia) in Plymouth, MA. (per FG). Appears to be correct per this record, though Alora's birth place is recorded as Marshfield instead of Mashpee. Alora's mother: Mercy S. Hicks. Recorded at Plymouth, Plymouth, Mass. Race: Both Mulatto.^[4] Marriage intentions, recorded the same day at Plymouth.^[5]
• Note: Alora states that she is widowed in 1880 and is listed as widowed on her death record in 1895. The William Gray that she is attached to on Family Search lives until 1917.
