Lindsay 'Russell' Hill was born on 22 December 1881 in Portage-La-Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. He was the third child of William Hill and Margaret Alice Johnston. In 1883 the Hill family moved to Rounthwaite, Manitoba to homestead. In 1897 the farm was sold to George Davidson who married Myrtle Hill. The family lived in Rounthwaite and ran a boarding house. In 1899 they moved to Nesbitt where their father did carpentery work. In 1906 the Hill family moved to a homestead west of Drake and south of Guernsey, Saskatchewan.
Russell and his brother Percy eventually did most of the farm work. He bought his own land and the farms prospered. Russell married Agnes Brandt about 1921. Their children were Mary Irene, Florence, Robert, Margaret Isabelle and Mildred Joanne. The family was busy on the farm and attended many events with their neighbours. In 1956, he and Agnes retired in Saskatoon. Russell passed away there on 3 June 1961. He was buried in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon.
