Biography

Mary, eldest child of Christopher Hill and Julianna Holman, was born in 1652. Her baptism is recorded in the Poundstock parish register.[1]

Baptistata erat Maria hill filia Christophori et Juliana. This entry was written in the hand of her father Christopher Hill.

She married William Salmon, vicar of St Breward in 1677. Their marriage is recorded in the St Breward parish register.[2]

Guillimus Salmon, hujus Parochiae Vicarius, & Maria Hill, dau. of Christopheri Hill, Michaelstoniensis Rectoris.

Their marriage is also recorded in the Michaelstow parish register.[3]

William died in 1690. Mary would have needed somewhere to live after the death of her husband enforced a move from the vicarage.

A lease was drawn up on the 27th August 1691 between Mary Salmon, widow of St.Breward, and Humphrey Nicoll esquire of Penvose, for a "tenement" in Churchtown, St. Breward, in the Manor of Hametethy. The lease was for 99 years or three lives. The lives being Mary's children John, William and Margaret. The initial payment was £4..10 shillings; the rent 4 pence and the Heriot 1 shilling. The witnesses were John Blake, John Hawken and Lewes Hawken. Mary Salmon's signature is on the lease.[4]

In 1693 she married Robert Allen a yeoman farmer. Their marriage is recorded in the St Breward parish register.[5]

Mary was mentioned in her mother's will as Mary Allen, and Robert Allen, with others, held money for his sister-in-law Ann.[6]

She passed away in 1721. Her burial is recorded in the St Breward parish register.[7]

Hill-24671 and Hill-7656 appear to represent the same person because: The dates are different but they are the same person. Mary Hill is my 9th great-grandmother. I have done a lot of research on the family.
