Biography
John was the son of George Hilliard and Ellen Hurst.
He married in the Templecarn Parish Church to Elizabeth Boyd in 1863. George Hilliard and William Hilliard were their witnesses.
Eight children were born in his marriage to Elizabeth Boyd, James, Robert, Mary Jane, Susan, Fannie, Elizabeth, George, and Catherine.
No birth record was sourced for James Hilliard recorded to have been born in June 1864.
John was widowed in 1880 when Elizabeth died aged 35. He remarried to Letty (Letitia) Kennedy of Sessiagkielta on 2 December 1881. Witnesses were John Brown and Joseph Donaldson.
They settled at Sessiagkielta and had 4 children in the marriage, William, John, George and Thomas.
Two sons were named George. No death was found for George born 1876.
John Hilliard died in 1916 aged 80. His son Thomas was present and the informant of his death.
John Hilliard was buried at Carn Graveyard.[1] His headstone was erected by his daughters Catherine and Elizabeth of Niagara Falls, America.
