Ada Elizabeth Hines was born in 1879 in Dover, Kent, England.[1] She was the daughter of George Hines and Mary E Hines.[2][3]
In the 1891 census, Ada Hines (11) was living in Hougham, Kent, with parents George Hines (43) and Mary Hines (36), and brother Arthur (10).[2]
Ada Elizabeth Hines married Herbert Harry Cooper in 1901 in Hampshire, England.[4]
In the 1901 England census, Ada E Cooper (21) was living in Idsworth, (Horndean subdistrict), Hampshire, England, with her parents George Hines (53) and Mary E Hines (46), brother Arthur Hines (20), and husband Herbert H Cooper (24).[3]
They likely had son Herbert Leonard Cooper born in Jul 1901 in Rowland's Castle, Hampshire, although a record specifically listing his parents has not been identified. In the 1911 England census, Herbert Leonard Cooper (9) was living in Chalton Village, Horndean, Hampshire with grandparents George Hines (63) and Mary Elizabeth Hines (56).[5] (Ada and husband Herbert Cooper are not clearly identified in the 1911 England census.)
Ada Elizabeth Hanes, age 30, wife of Herbert Cooper, late of Chalton, Horndeau, Hampshire, died on 21 Apr 1910 in Montreal, Canada, and was buried on 25 Apr 1910 at Saint Thomas Anglican, Montréal, Québec, Canada.[6]
It appears that Ada and Herbert had emigrated to Canada, and had left their son in care of grandparents, possibly while they became established, but on her death he was left in care of his grandparents and grew up in England.
