Harold was born in April 1920. He was the son of Theodor Holfeld and Linda Rath. He attended Alton and Horton Schools. He worked for farmers in southern Manitoba from 1937 to 1939. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II. He served as a dispatcher rider for the 2nd Heavy Anti-Aircraft unit stationed outside of Grays, Essex in England. He met and married Zena Coker in April 1843 in Thurrock, Essez, England. In 1943 he was transferred to CMHA London and served there until 1946. After the war, they both came to Canada and he worked in the store in Jansen for a short time. They then lived in Indian Head and Regina where he worked for the Cockshutt Farm Equipment Company. In 1956 he was transferred to Saskatoon and then to Edmonton, where he worked until he retired in 1983. They retired in Victoria, British Columbia. They had four children. Gus passed away in 1991 in Victoria and was buried in Royal Oak Burial Park Cemetery.
