Barnett (age 22) married Marilla Elizabeth Lester (age 15); daughter of David Rodolphus Lester and Elizabeth (Mullins) Lester; on January 2, 1840, in Jones County, Georgia.[1] Their children were:
In 1840, Barnett (age 23) lived in Jones County, Georgia. He owned 30 slaves.[2]
After the death of his first wife, Barnett (age 26) married Caroline Matilda Wellborn (age 19); daughter of Carlton Wellborn and Rebecca (Mills) Wellborn; on October 24, 1844, in Houston County, Georgia.[3] They had the following children:
By 1850, Barnett (age 33) had moved his family to his father-in-law's farm in Houston County, Georgia.[4]

By 1880, Barnett (age 63) lived alone. He continued to live on his farm in Houston County, Georgia.[7] When the census was taken, his wife, Caroline Matilda Wellborn, was staying with their youngest daughter, Ann.
Barnett died on September 24, 1889, in Houston County, Georgia, United States, aged about 71.[8] He was buried in Shiloh Methodist Cemetery, Byron, Peach, Georgia.[9]
