Biography

Robert Hollis baptised 10 Sept 1826 at Spilsby, son of Thomas and Prudence.

In 1851 Robert 24 was curate of St George's Church in Hyde, Cheshire and living by himself in Church street.

In 1861 Robert Hollis unmarried 34 was curate of Spalding living therewith a servant and a visitor Mary Ann Dawson age 11.

Charlotte nee Carter married thirdly Reverend Robert Hollis in 1864 Spalding, Lincolnshire - marriage of Charlotte Stewart and Robert Hollis [9]

In 1871 Robert was Chaplain of Whaplode age 45 from Spilsby living in the vicarage there with Charlotte 50, Charlotte Georgina Maud Hewatt (sic, Stewart) 18 his stepdaughter and two servants and a carpenter. *1871 Census for The Village, Whaplode, Holbeach, Lincolnshire, England : Charlotte HOLLIS : Wife : Married : Age 50 : Chaplains wife : Birth place Spalding, Lincolnshire, England<

In 1881 Robert 55 and born in Spilsby was vicar of Whaplode Drove lived there with Charlotte 60, and had a servant. *1881 census for Whaploade Drove, Whaplode, Holbeach, Lincolnshire, England Charlotte HOLLIS : Wife Married : Age 60 : Vicars wife : Birth place Spalding, Lincolnshire, England

1888 Mrs Charlotte Hollis formerly Stewart died on the 13th of Dec 1888 & was buried on the 17 Dec 1888 at Whaplode Drove Parish Churchyard. Robert was still there in 1891 and 1901. Robert Hollis died in Holbeach aged 74 on 14 August 1901 [ref 7a 247] and in his will was a clerk in Holy Orders of Whaplode Drove. In the will dated 23 December 1897 he left all his property to his niece Dorothy Margaret Eva Clayton Calthorp and appointed Joe George Calthorp as executor. He added a codicil in which he devised to John Russell Jackson vicar of Moulton or to the trustees of The National School Whaplode Drove the parcel of land adjoining the school and being used as the playground, “on condition that the Vicar of Whaplode does his own duty and minds his own business, and further that the Chaplain of the Free Chapel of the Hamlet of Whaplode Drove go and do likewise”.
