She married James D Whitman at Dixfield, Maine on 2 August 1819. They were the parents of nine known children.
The 1850 US census for Carthage, Maine lists residents of a home as James B Whitman (47), a farmer, Polly Whitman (47), Lorenzo Whitman (16), a farmer and a student, Sarah Whitman (13), a student, Mary A Whitman (10), a student, Eliza Ann Whitman (9), a student, Charlotte Whitman (7), a student, Monroe Whitman (2), John Bryant (63), a laborer, and Arethusa Bryant (59). James was born in Massachusetts, the Bryants in New Hampshire and all the rest in Maine. James owns real estate valued at $200.
The 1860 US census for Waltham, Massachusetts lists residents Polly Whitman (57), Lanora Whitman (female) (27), a watch factory operative, Sarah Whitman (24), a watch factory operative, Mary Whitman (20), a watch factory operative, Eliza Whitman (18), a watch factory operative, and Monroe Whitman (12), a student. All were born in Maine.
