Biography

John Horton was the third-born son of Thomas Horton and his first wife Margaret Culverwell. He was probably born about 1586 and baptized at St Martin Vintry. He was listed in the 1634 Visitation of London[1] as a merchant and third son.

On 18 May 1626, John Horton married Elisabeth, widow of Edward Baker, originally Elisabeth Crowley, at St Margaret Moses, the church where his sister Margaret's husband was the minister.[1] [2] [3] [4]

In the 1634 Visitation, he lists a John Horton as "eldest sonn" but no other children.[1]

John Horton was left substantial bequests in the 1615 will of his father Thomas Horton and was also named as the sole executor of his father's will.[5]
